Muchamad Darisman, Indonesia

My name is Muchamad Darisman (Indonesia). When I attended the ANROAV meeting in Manila in 2008, I was shocked to learn how dangerous asbestos is. For in Indonesia, asbestos is used on a massive scale, especially in roofing. Since then, I have learned how useful shared research on the health dangers of asbestos can be in advocating for workers and communities in the fight for public and environmental health and safety.

Presently, I am part of combined efforts to build a network which focuses on OSH issues, including the ban of asbestos. Together with several other NGO’s, we have set up INA-BAN, the network which endeavors to prohibit asbestos in Indonesia. If you would like to know more about INA-BAN or get into contact with other anti-asbestos networks and their members worldwide through GBAN, please feel free to contact me.  Indonesia@gban.net
